After writing that thing about Issei Sagawa a while ago, I wanted to write some more about evil people.  In my search for evil people in history, this time I've come across somebody that may or may not be the most evil person ever (not taking people like Hitler in consideration).

The evil person I would like to introduce to you today is probably the most prolific serial killer in history. The fact that it is a woman is pure coincidence.

In the last couple of weeks, I noticed that most of the visitors to my humble blog get here after searching Google for 'Renée Hartevelt'. This is because of a post I wrote in November of 2008, in a series of articles about bad people, so I thought it would be nice to rewrite it in English.

I have some strange fascinations. One of them is that I'm interested in everything that has to do with serial killers. Believe it or not, I actually own a bunch of books on the subject, though the person this article is about is technically not a serial killer (as far as I know, he's killed once). Nevertheless, the story of Issei Sagawa is bizarre.

Soms betrap ik mezelf op vreemde fascinaties. Zo ben ik bijvoorbeeld altijd al geinteresseerd geweest in moordernaars, en dan vooral uit het genre 'seriemoordenaars'. Het is misschien gek, maar ik heb een aardig rijtje boeken hierover op de plank staan, en dus een haast onuitputtelijk archief van slechte mensen. De volgende intens slechte persoon die ik aan u wil voorstellen is echter geen seriemoordenaar (voor zover ik weet heeft hij één moord gepleegd), maar er zijn wel wat andere bizarre dingen aan de hand met Issei Sagawa.

Het is best leuk om stukjes over helden te schrijven, en ik hoop voor u ook aardig om af en toe eens te lezen. Maar er zijn ook heel veel interessante personen die helemaal geen held zijn, maar gewoon intens slecht en gemeen. En eigenlijk zijn die personen nog veel leuker om over te schrijven. En daarom vandaag deel I in deze serie, waarbij ik u voorstel aan een heel slecht persoon (dat het een vrouw betreft, is toeval). We gaan eens even kijken naar Gravin Elisabeth Báthory.
